Insurance claims and adjustments
If your repairs are being paid for by insurance, your agent and the carrier have an interest in keeping the cost of repair to a minimum. Many insurance companies have their claim adjusters trained as body repair cost estimators. They keep current on the prices of all kinds (and qualities) of body and other repair parts.
Some companies decide unilaterally what they will pay for a given repair to a given make and model vehicle.
Some companies exert considerable pressure on the body repair industry to buy low-cost imported body parts because many insurance company estimates are based on the lower costs of these parts.
The body shops are often caught in the middle when the consumer wants the vehicle repaired to pre-accident condition and the insurance company won't pay the full cost.
Many insurance companies argue that a two-year-old vehicle may not require original equipment to make the repair.
With no experts, statistics, and lawyers, the consumer is often left feeling helpless when it comes to getting a fair settlement.
